The principle of operation & features of the "PipeHugger" liquid bladder are :- That a large diameter chamber, relative to the diameter of an entry and exit hole to that chamber, ensures that pressure pulses entering and attempting to pass through such a chamber, die away. The death of pressure waves is relative to a near "cube" law exponent, by distance from entry point to the nearest point for reflection. So that a pressure wave, entering through a small hole, finding itself in a chamber, say 12 times the diameter of the entry hole, will die away to the extent that what is left of the pressure wave, will hardly find its way out of the outlet. "PipeHugger" pulsation dampeners with an elastomeric separator between process liquid and "gas spring", are therefore intrinsically large diameter devices. This has another basic advantage: The bladder, that is the liquid chamber, is large diameter. Large diameter membranes have good response characteristics to changes in pressure that are small. For example and by comparison with small diameter slender gas bags, a PipeHugger bladder may respond to less than a tenth of the pressure change, and also respond at up to ten times the frequency.

PipeHugger Twin Port Low Pressure Pulsation Dampeners: Series "PeG-TW/"
The large diameter and short configuration of low pressure pipehuggers with stable operation when mounted in any orientation, enables "CLOSE COUPLING". This minimization of the distance between the pulsation dampeners' membrane internals and the pump inlet or check valve, ensures maximum performance by freeing the dampener response from a heavy column of liquid - between pump and dampener. The Pipehugger LP "Peg-TW/--" is often between 3 times and nine times as efficient a dampener, size for size, as the gas bag (bladder balloon) type.

CONCLUSION
Nominal volumes like "A 1 Liter Dampener" or "A 1 Quart Dampener" are an irrelevance. It is for example "The 92% flow smoothing improvement" - plus - "The 98% pressure pulsation interception dampening performance" per Dollar or per Euro, that is relevant.

PROOF OF THE PUDDING
PipeHuggers, are so efficient, and cost effective that they may cost less than nothing. This is simply because without them, a pipe system has to be sized to carry the peak velocities. With PipeHuggers installed, the peak velocities are accumulated, and only the constant velocity remains. So with PipeHugger installed, the size of the pipes will be halved. This saving often exceeds the cost of your PipeHugger, hence your system gets flow smoothing and pressure pulse dampening for free.

PipeHuggers double the Pump Life, or Double the Flow

PipeHugger Twin Port High Pressure Pulsation Dampeners: Series "Phr-TW/" that used to be known as the "PulseTwin". In the days of Bill Mount for LDi in Texas, when men were bold and women didn't wear nighties, - say about 1985, a gentleman had some Milton Roy pumps that Bill had provided back in his day with M.R.. These pumps were suffering, but there was no budget to replace them, so they installed PipeHuggers. These pumps have run as long since as before. So long in fact that the end user has changed its company name more times than the seals.

CONCLUSION
Referring to "One Gallon Dampeners" or "Four Liter Dampeners" is like talking about "One Tonne Steam Engines" - that measure today is break horsepower and torque, not weight. The measure of a dampener today is smoothness per dollar.

PROOF OF THE PUDDING
Taking a tapping into a pump chamber, and the strain on its head boltings, LDi has found that pumps that previously showed a 89% volumetric efficiency at 173 strokes per minute, could be driven at 312 spm, and against the same back pressure, with twice flow. No increase in head bolt strain and less pressure change in the pumping chamber - when fitted with PipeHuggers TW direct onto the suction and discharge check valves.

Clearly one can double the flow from a pump, without increasing its work load, simply by feeding its suction and cushioning its discharge with close coupling.
